An objective presentation followed by a Q&A session The future of the heating oil industry if there is to be one, is a low carbon future. This session will attempt to dispel misinformation surrounding Bioheat and how to handle the issues that moving to higher Bioheat blends in the near future will present. Some of the questions to be answered include, Why Bioheat? Why the necessity to transition to low carbon fuels? What is Bioheat and how is it different from petroleum based fuels? How is it similar? What issues could higher blends create? What research is being done to address these potential issues? And most importantly, how does the industry work together in implementing the shift to a renewable future? |

All you ever wanted to know about air, and then some. During this four-hour class you will learn about all of the properties of air and how they relate to each other. As part of this session, we will closely examine the psychrometric chart and plot out air conditioning and heating systems on it to see what actually happens to the air as we condition it. Did you know that, by taking some basic air measurements, you can actually determine the capacity of a heating or cooling system? You'll learn how to do it as part of this session. | Click for Info | Prof. Eugene Silberstein | NA |

Advanced Electricity and Basic Electronics |
Friday Jan 26 8 AM - NOON |

For those of us old enough to remember, most HVAC controls were electromechanical devices that were easy to inspect, evaluate, troubleshoot and, in many cases, fix. In today's HVAC world, most of the controls we deal with are electronic and the days of generic replacement parts and "creative" system repairs are long gone. In this four-hour session you will learn about, among other things, the difference between "electricity" and "electronics", basic electronic components (diodes, transistors, etc.), how inverter-controlled components (pumps, fans and other motor-controlled devices) work as well as receive an introduction to Input-Output troubleshooting, which is the basis for evaluating solid-state boards, no matter how complicated. | Click for Info | Prof. Eugene Silberstein | NA |

Introduction To Oilheat
Basic Service Technician CourseOilheat Service Technicians can now be nationally certified. In order to be qualified for Bronze Certification you must complete at least 80 hours of classroom training and pass a comprehensive examination.
This introductory course will provide both the basic theory and "hands on" program training needed for the proper development of an oil heat service technician. All attendees will receive NORA'S OILHEAT TECHNICIAN'S MANUAL. Domestic oil burners and oil heating systems will be thoroughly covered in both classroom lectures, as well as in our a fully-equipped, "state-of-the-art" heating lab located right here on Long Island. Review sessions prior to the Bronze Certification examination are also included.

"I'm thrilled to be working in the Oilheat industry! I didn't need years of training to get my job; I took the basic course and I was hired. The pay is great, and so are the benefits, health insurance and pension plan. I don't have to invest a fortune in work clothes. I work close to home, and I use my service van to drive to and from work, so I don't need a second car. All in all, you can't beat a job like this for security, income and perks."
- Greg Neway, Fall 2006 Graduate
What you'll learn:"I've been in the Oilheat industry for twenty years. I am NORA Gold Certified and I still take continuing education classes to sharpen my skills. In this industry, you always have the opportunity to learn and gain valuable knowledge to help further your career."
